Event-related GHGs are created either directly by an event or as a consequence of an event’s activities. In essence, you are looking to include GHGs that without the event wouldn’t have been created.

However just because the GHGs are created, it is not necessarily imperative that they are measured and reported. A responsible and common sense approach to measurement is encouraged. The following guidance and checklist can be used to review you event’s potential GHGs and determine whether they should be measured or not.

The potential GHGs are categorised on the following pages by Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (indirect) and Scope 3 (other indirect) emissions. Tick Yes or No for each question, and include a short sentence to justify your inclusion or exclusion of the GHG source in question. If adequately justified, you can choose to measure an impact, but not necessarily include it as part of your event’s ‘carbon footprint’ against which you would apply carbon offsetting.
